Netball Performance Pathway

*Trial registrations are now closed*

Each season, Wasps host open trial opportunities for Athletes to be selected into the Wasps Netball Academy Pathway.

Wasps Netball has a clear vision with aspirations to win the Netball Superleague and support Athlete selection into the Roses and Roses Academy squads. To sustain the club as a leading franchise, the Wasps Netball Academy programme aspires to develop robust athletes across all court positions, in an athlete-centred, safe, diverse and inclusive environment.

We are looking for talented netball players to progress and be a part of our Wasps Player Pathway.

Background

During 2021 England Netball consulted with Franchise/Regional/County representatives about the wider Player Pathway with three fundamental objectives:

  • To review the current player pathway structure/system
  • Engage with stakeholders to ensure they are heard and fully represented
  • Identify gaps and opportunities that could create greater success for talented athletes across the Player Pathway.

From these consultations, England Netball have reorganised the Player Pathway to provide more structure and a clear pathway for young players.

The following diagram shows the England Netball Player Pathway and how Wasps feeds into this:

Wasps Netball Academy Age Group Squads

The Wasps Netball Pathway offers a number of opportunities for Athletes to represent the Club at different stages of their development.

The National Performance Leagues (NPL) are England Netball sanctioned competitions for U17, U19 & U21 squads. They are designed to provide the game’s outstanding youth players with a performance environment. It is an organised, highly disciplined intense competition against the English Vitality Netball Superleague clubs and any other invited team.

Age Eligibility:

U21 – Athletes born in 2002 or 2003
U19 – Athletes born in 2004 or 2005
U17 – Athletes born in 2006 or 2007
U15 – Athletes going into Year 9 or Year 10 in September

Age Group Development Squads

The Wasps U17 Player Development programme will run parallel with our U21 and U19 programmes between October and May. This will provide an opportunity for players who may not have made the U19/U17 squads to be supported for another year, or for talented athletes that want to train and play at a higher level.

Athletes will be included in our Inter Academy match play days and competition against other franchises. Our U17 Development Squad will train once a week

Age Eligibility

U19 – players born in 2004 or 2005
U17 – players born in 2006 or 2007
