Welshman Thomas Young joined Wasps in 2014 from Gloucester Rugby having come through the academy system at Cardiff Blues for whom he also made his senior debut.
As a specialist openside-flanker, who has an impressive turn of foot and is a consistent defensive performer, Young was a regular in the Welsh age-group set-up who appeared at Under 16, 18 and 20 levels including the 2011 Junior World Championship.
His first season in Black and Gold saw him make the most of limited opportunities, before his breakthrough came in a 2015/16 season during which he worked closely with Australian legend George Smith.
In the two seasons following Smith’s departure, Young was Wasps’ first choice number seven, won a number of man-of-the-match awards and a place on EPCR’s coveted Player of the Season shortlist.
This consistently outstanding form saw him named in Wales’ 2017 Six Nations squad before he then made his international debut against Tonga before also appearing against Samoa on his country’s summer tour.
Having been a key part of the side which reached the Premiership final in 2016/17 and semi-final in 2017/18, Young suffered injury setbacks during 2018/19. However, he was still named as Supporters' Player of the Season despite having only made 14 appearances.
His form during 2018/19 also saw him recalled to the Wales squad as he starred in the win over Italy in Rome, before they went on to complete the Grand Slam.
A key figure within the Wasps squad, Young was named as co-captain for the 2019/20 season alongside Dan Robson.
