The former Highlanders and Southland fly half who has won 18 New Zealand caps joined Wasps for the 2018/19 season.
Renowned across the globe as an exciting attacking talent who is also a consistent goal kicker and fine game manager, Dai Young has pulled off a major coup in bringing one of the world game’s leading No.10’s from Dunedin to Coventry.
Sopoaga’s senior rugby career in New Zealand’s Provincial Rugby Championship began with his native Wellington. He also featured for his country at U20 level in the 2011 World Cup alongside back-rower Brad Shields with whom he is now reunited at Wasps.
Selection for the Highlanders soon followed, as did a Super Rugby title, and he has been a fixture in their fly-half shirt ever since.
The exciting No.10 claimed the Highlanders’ seasonal points-scoring record in 2015 when he amassed 191 and is also second-ranked in the franchise’s history for most career points.
His test debut arrived in 2015 against South Africa, and to date, he has scored 55 points at international level.
