Dai Young

Director of Rugby

Director of rugby David Young joined Wasps in 2011 since when he has masterminded the club’s ascent from an eleventh-placed Premiership finish to three successive play-off appearances.

In addition, Wasps have three times qualified for the last eight of the European Champions Cup during the former prop forward’s time at the helm.

Young was named as the Premiership’s rugby-director-of-the-season in 2016/17 following Wasps’ extra time final defeat by Exeter.

Prior to joining the black-and-golds, Young enjoyed a successful spell as head coach of Cardiff Blues – the club he captained from 1998 to 2002.

During his time at the Arms Park Young’s club finished as runners-up in the 2006/07 Magners League and won both the Anglo-Welsh Cup and the Amlin Challenge Cup.

Young’s glittering playing career was headlined by British & Irish Lions call-ups in 1989, 1997 and 2001.

The tight-head also won 51 Wales caps, including a spell as captain, and has both played for and coached the Barbarians.

Young also captained Wales at rugby league during spells with Leeds and Salford.
