Wright Hassall 175th Anniversary

Date: 12 Feb 2021

A chance for a disadvantaged young person to have their undergraduate law degree’s tuition fees fully funded is among various initiatives that have been unveiled to celebrate the anniversary of one of the Midlands’ leading law firms.

Wright Hassall – which is based on Olympus Avenue in Leamington Spa - turns 175 years old this year, and to mark this major milestone, the law firm has launched a series of competitions and challenges centred on the number 175.

One of the initiatives is the Wright Hassall Law Award. This award will fund the tuition fees for a young person from Coventry and Warwickshire, who would otherwise struggle to afford university, to study for a three-year undergraduate law degree.

Those wanting to enter the Wright Hassall Law Award - which involves submitting a short essay - should register their interest via www.wrighthassall175.co.uk - with the winner set to be selected ahead of the 2022 academic year.

Budding artists are also being given the opportunity to have their picture of a well-known Warwickshire landmark featured in Wright Hassall’s 2022 calendar, with all proceeds from each calendar going towards the law firm’s chosen four charities for the year: Helping Hands Community project, Warwick District Foodbank, Tiny Tim’s Children’s Centre and Warwickshire Young Carers.

Other initiatives to celebrate the occasion include joining Wright Hassall’s ‘175 running club’ on Strava to run 175km by 31 December 2021, as well as the opportunity to take part in a one-day 75km bike ride later this year.

The firm will also be providing 175 trees at its Olympus House headquarters for the public to collect and plant later this year, and are asking individuals to apply to reserve a tree of their own. In addition, they are encouraging others to also plant trees to support the environment and to provide a lasting memory of the 175 year anniversary.

The announcement of these latest initiatives follows the launch of the firm’s ‘175 acts of kindness’ project which is urging people to nominate someone who has made a difference to someone else’s life or the wider community.  The winning nominations each month will get a chance to donate their prize money to a charity of their choice with a winning prize of 1,175 being available at the end of the year.

Sarah Perry, Managing Partner at Wright Hassall, said: “The heart of Wright Hassall is its employees and the firm has always had an ethos of caring and supporting its staff, particularly when life deals them a bit of a blow - and this ethos is reflected into the wider community, too.

“We would not be celebrating our 175th anniversary if the firm hadn’t had the support of our clients and the wider community over the years we’ve been in business, and this year is about us giving something back.

“I am looking forward to all of the positives of our 175th birthday celebrations; it’s going to give us a real sense of fun and a chance to thank our wider community through raising money for our chosen charities.

“It’s also about making a difference and recognising that we can influence how other people feel at a time when the current circumstances are challenging for everybody.”
