Wasps v Worcester Easter egg donation

Date: 27 Mar 2019

Wasps players are urging the general public to help them deliver an early Easter present to vulnerable people across Coventry and Warwickshire.

The Club is setting up a donation point for Easter eggs at Ricoh Arena on Saturday 6 April ahead of Wasps’ West Midlands derby against Worcester Warriors in the Gallagher Premiership (kick-off 3pm).

Supporters can make donations by visiting the Wasps Nest Fan Village – situated inside Ricoh Arena’s Ericsson Indoor Arena – between 12.30pm and 2.30pm.

Donations can also be made on the same day between 5pm and 6pm ahead of Wasps Netball’s  home clash with Team Bath (centre-pass 6pm).

The Easter eggs will then be personally delivered by some of Wasps’ first-team players to children on the wards of University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire, Warwick Hospital, Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice, as well as charities including Carriers of Hope and Helping Hands, in the days leading up to Easter Sunday.

Verity Brown is the Community and Matchday Marketing Manager at Wasps, and is urging the public to get behind the cause.

She said: “Being poorly and away from home can be particularly distressing and challenging for young people as well as their families, especially during the traditional family holiday periods when they want to be at home with their loved ones, which is why we will be visiting them to give them a nice distraction.

“We did similar visits to hospitals and Zoë’s Place with the players at Christmas time and you could see first-hand the joy that it brought to young people’s faces.

“We are also expanding our outreach to other people in need this Easter, and will be dropping some donations off to Carriers of Hope in Coventry, which helps refugee families, and also Helping Hands in Leamington who support the homeless community.

“We are urging as many people as possible to purchase a chocolate egg and drop it off at Ricoh Arena – the more we have, the more smiles we can put on faces this Easter.”

The Club is also encouraging supporters to enter their Easter bonnet competition in the Wasps Nest Fan Village between 12.30pm and 1.30pm, where the person who brings in the best decorated hat will be presented with a  2019/20 rugby Season Membership pitch side at half time.
