Director of Rugby Dai Young has named his Wasps team to face Worcester Warriors at Sixways this Sunday 10 September, kick off 3pm.

Wasps opened their 2017/18 account with a 50-35 win over Sale Sharks at the Ricoh Arena last weekend, and this Sunday the squad will make the short journey to Sixways for Round 2 of the Aviva Premiership campaign.

Marcus Watson and Guy Thompson are both handed starts this weekend, with Watson named to start on the right wing, and Thompson returning to fitness to take a spot in the back row.

Thompson’s inclusion at seven, sees Alex Rieder move to six and Ashley Johnson return to the front row in the number two shirt.

On the bench, new signing Paul Doran-Jones is named among the replacements, where Brendan Macken and Rob Miller are also added to the matchday 23, with Christian Wade (hamstring) and Juan De Jongh (finger) ruled out through injury.

Ahead of Sunday’s game, Dai Young warned that Worcester will be up for the fight after losing on the road away to Newcastle Falcons last weekend:

“Listening to Gary Gold’s interviews after their game last weekend, they were clearly disappointed with the result, so we know they’re going to come out looking to put the record straight this Sunday.

“It’s not always ideal to play a team who had a disappointment the week before, especially playing them at their place, that’s probably when they’re at their most dangerous, so we know it’s going to be tough for us down there.

“We were pleased with our first 25 minutes last Saturday, we stuck to our policies and structure, and came away with a lot of good scores. That has got to be our blueprint this weekend; we have to keep hold of the ball and we know we’ll score tries. If we can play for 60 or 70 minutes like we did for the first 25 minutes last weekend, it will take a very good side to beat us.”
