Wasps Netball’s Under 19 and Under 21 squads are just about to start their seasons and have named strong squads for their openers.
Wasps Academy Manager Lesley Blair, who was recently named Roses Academy Assistant Coach, runs through what we can expect from this season for both age groups.
“This season we are all looking forward to seeing some of our younger players get greater exposure to a higher level of competition.
“We are extremely proud that we have been able to see some of our Academy athletes move onto the next level with the Wasps U19s and U21 squads. This shows the pathway is working and builds on the hard work going on at every level of the Club.
“We have an enormously committed group of athletes and coaches who, despite the difficult circumstances caused by the pandemic, challenged themselves to keep improving. They remain committed to doing that again this season and it will be great to see them finally take to the court for a full campaign.
“We have had some exciting new players join us this season, particularly within the U21s. These new players, combined with athletes who have been with Wasps since day one, mean that we can expect to see some exciting netball played by these squads.
“Some of the players to look out for in the squads include athletes recently selected for the England Roses Academy; Lily Smith, Phoebe Maslen, Niamh Killgallen and Poppy Baker. They will take to the court for either the U19s and U21s and we are all really excited to see how they step up to the challenge over the coming games.”
