Wasps launch new traineeship for 2022

Date: 7 Dec 2021

Following the success of our first traineeship programme in March, we are back for 2022 and have got some exciting plans.

We have a great opportunity for 16–24-year-olds that are looking for work experience and to improve their employability skills. The Programme will run across 15 weeks in which the students spend 3 days a week gaining valuable work experience and 2 days in our learning centre at the Coventry Building Society Arena with our HITZ Tutor and Officer completing employability skills work.

During our initial traineeship programme back in March we were able to run a number of different placements at the Coventry Building Society Arena. Whilst that will always remain a key element, we wanted to take this programme forward and it was important to develop the range of opportunities we could offer our students.

HITZ has linked up with local businesses Park Sheet Metal and The Badgers Kitchen to add to our work experience offer. Park Sheet Metal have a brilliant reputation as a world class automotive supplier for large brand cars such as Aston Martin, McLaren, Bentley, BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lotus, Nissan, and Volvo. This is a great company for our students to gain work experience and potential employment during or after the programme.

We have also connected with The Badgers Kitchen, which is located at Brandon Marsh Nature Reserve. The Badgers Kitchen believes in providing the very best service and quality food for everyone visiting the Brandon Marsh Visitor Centre and that food should be sustainably sourced, freshly prepared and shared as part of the community. The Badger’s Kitchen menu provides a wide choice of vegan, gluten free and allergy sensitive options so the whole family can enjoy their visit. Having some of our traineeship students gaining work experience here is fantastic, they will learn everything there is to know about working within a kitchen, serving customers and handling money.

Delaware North, our food service, and hospitality provider here at the Coventry Building Society Arena played a huge part in our first traineeship back in March of this year, which was extremely successful, students gaining experience in various areas of the business across 15 weeks. One of our students on that programme gained a full-time role in the logistics team within 8 weeks of joining the programme and has maintained that job ever since, its always a pleasure to see Daniel Coleman working hard around the Arena in a job he gained through our HITZ programme. Delaware North will continue to support our 2022 traineeship programme.

‘I have enjoyed the programme throughout, I was more than willing to do the full 15 weeks of the course, the ultimate goal being to gain employment at the end of the traineeship, but to have the opportunity to apply and gain employment earlier has been brilliant, I am so glad I took part in the traineeship’ Daniel Coleman (Previous HITZ Traineeship Student).

‘We are extremely excited to get this traineeship started and mirror the success of the first one, we have even more to offer in January, and this could help change people’s lives. The links we have with some local businesses are brilliant and they believe in helping young people as much as we do, making the relationship very strong. We take so much pride in helping our students gain employment and we will work tirelessly to help them achieve this’ Dom Owen (HITZ Officer)
