Wasps get Hat-Trick of Awards at Major Sporting Ceremony
Date: 30 Nov 2018
Wasps have landed a hat-trick of honours at a major sporting awards ceremony.
Hundreds of people from the regional sports scene and wider community came together at Ricoh Arena earlier this week for the Coventry and Warwickshire Sports Awards.
The Wasps Community Foundation – which is the charity arm of Wasps Rugby Club - picked up the Community Award, after helping to enrich and transform around 60,000 lives across Coventry and Warwickshire over the past year.
Elliot Daly also triumphed in the Professional Sportsman of the Year category in what has been an eventful 12 months for the 26-year-old, where he has caught the eye playing for Wasps, England and the British and Irish Lions.
Wasps Netball’s Jade Clarke completed a trophy-laden evening as she was named Professional Sportswoman of the Year after a year that saw her help England Roses to a historic Commonwealth Games gold medal, before returning home to play a key role in Wasps Netball securing back-to-back Superleague titles.
Nick Eastwood, CEO of Wasps Group, said: “These awards are a stand-out date in the region’s sporting calendar, and once again the evening was full of so many inspirational sporting stories.
“Congratulations to Elliot, Jade and Wasps’ Community Foundation team on their award wins – they had some fantastic competition in their categories so it’s great that their talent and hard work has been recognised in this way.”
