Wasps Academy’s Developing Player Programme are currently unable to run their usual training sessions due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions. Instead, the group have turned their attentions to a physical challenge to raise money for the MND Association.
Wasps’ DPP players and staff, will be running 50km each through the month of March to raise money for the MNDA. The Academy’s DPP players and staff have currently raised over £16,000.
The MND Association is the only national charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland dedicated to improving care and support for people affected by MND, funding and promoting research, and campaigning to raise awareness so the needs of people with MND are addressed by society.
DPP Manager and Academy Coach Development Officer Joe Cain came up with the great idea of setting all the players and staff the challenge.
Cain said: “With us not being able to train during the current pandemic we have aimed to raise money for this great cause, while keeping fit and active safely.
“We already have over 300 runners taking part in the challenge across our catchment area of Buckinghamshire, Warwickshire and Oxfordshire, with all participants being guided through the month by our Strength and Conditioning Coach Giles Baylin.
“The money we raise will help many people across the UK with MND and any donation is very much appreciated.”
