Two-time Premiership Sevens winner leads the way for Wasps
Date: 26 Jul 2018
Owain James, who has tasted plenty of success in the Premiership Sevens over the last three seasons, leads a pace-packed side at Franklin’s Gardens this weekend.
The 21-year-old full back is joined in an exciting line-up by winger Callum Sirker and forward Will Wilson both of whom last year appeared for England on the world sevens circuit.
Tom Stileman, who has won three Oxford Blues as a 15-a-side winger, features alongside former England Students lock Tim Cardall and Wilson in the forwards.
Meanwhile teenage fly half Sunni Jardine and former England U18 Will Porter, who gained Championship experience at Rotherham late last season, will pull the black-and-gold strings.
With upto five interchanges permitted during each match, the likes of the speedy Taju Atta and Cameron Anderson are also set to play important roles.
Wasps’ pool A meetings with Gloucester and Northampton take place on Friday evening at 8.08pm and 9.38pm respectively, after which knock-out stages follow from 2pm on Saturday.

Academy Manager Jon Pendlebury said:
“We’re all really looking forward to the competition, and in particular to seeing one or two new faces in a Wasps jersey for the first time.
“It will be a good opportunity to see the guys put the skills into practice that they have worked on as an academy group and when they’ve been integrated in the senior squad.
“We’ve got plenty of pace, which you always need in sevens, and also some good decision makers who are equally quick upstairs.
“Knowing the coaches at Gloucester and Northampton, we expect them have a similar mix of players and approach to us, and playing the final game of the night against Northampton in front of their home crowd is a really exciting prospect.
“It’s the same ball and pitch as 15-a-side, but it’s a totally different sport. We’ve got a few guys who have played a fair bit in the past, including Will and Callum who were on the sevens circuit last year while Owain was part of our success over the last two years.”
