Olly Hartley Re-Signs And Is Promoted To The First Team Squad

Date: 17 Feb 2022

We are delighted to announce that Olly Hartley, has re-signed with the Club and has been promoted to the Wasps First Team Squad for next season.

In a sign of strength for the Academy pathway and the opportunities it brings, Hartley recently made his debut in Black and Gold against Newcastle Falcons in the Premiership Cup. The centre scored a try and had an impressive performance in the North-East.

A week later the 19-year-old made it two tries in two games, as he also dotted down against Leicester Tigers at Coventry Building Society Arena.

Hartley was named in the England Rugby U20 Elite Player Squad back in January, but unfortunately picked up an ankle injury that has stopped him from competing in the U20 Six Nations.

The Whitgift School product played in the same Wasps Under 18s side as Charlie Atkinson, before joining the Senior Academy in the Summer of 2020.

Billed as a player to look out for by Head Coach Lee Blackett, Hartley will be yet another Wasps Academy graduate in the Wasps First Team Squad next season.

Wasps Head of Academy and Recruitment Kevin Harman said: “We are very pleased Olly has signed a long-term extension at the Club.

“Olly is a player with huge potential and is a young man that has a real desire to play first team rugby.

“He has grown immensely during his game time with Ampthill in the Championship this season, where he has shown that he is more than capable of stepping up to play Premiership rugby.

“Olly has also shown an excellent commitment throughout his time with the Club, where he has had overcome some difficult injuries. We cannot wait to see him back on the park in a Wasps jersey.”

Hartley added: “I’m really happy to have re-signed at the Club. I’ve been here since I was 13-years-old and there is no place I would rather be.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds in Black and Gold. There are hopefully some exciting times ahead.

“I can’t wait to be back stepping out at Coventry Building Society Arena soon.”
