Mr & Mrs competition winners

A couple of hard-core Wasps fans have won a pair of season memberships after finishing top of the pile in a Valentines quiz held by the club.

Karen and Gary Handley, from Rugby, have bagged themselves free tickets to watch Wasps in action throughout next season after taking part in a Mr and Mrs Competition, proving that after 37 years together, they know all there is to know about each other.

The club held the competition, hosted by BBC Coventry & Warwickshire’s Brody Swain, in the Wasps Nest Fan Village ahead of the club’s Aviva Premiership clash against Exeter Chiefs, inviting couples to try and answer 20 questions about each other based on various aspects of day-to-day life, with the winning couple each receiving a Wasps season membership for the 2018/19 season.

Questions included who has the best fashion sense, who snores the loudest and who is most likely to remove a spider from the house, with the couple who gave the most correct answers winning top prize.

Karen and Gary, who met during a social event when they both worked for the Navy and now have three children, blew away the competition and can now catch every game Wasps play next season, a tradition they have kept up since the club’s move to the Ricoh Arena in 2014.

Karen, who is originally from Coventry and currently works as a customer relationship manager at Anya Court Care Home in Rugby, said: “We had a great time taking part in the quiz, it was such a laugh.

“You always learn something about your partner in this type of thing and I was quite shocked to learn that Gary thought I can talk too much sometimes!

“But clearly we know all of the little things about each other and after such a long time I am not surprised.

“We are massive Wasps fans and have been season ticket holders for a couple of years now, so we have saved ourselves a bit of money here.”

Prior to happy couples taking on the Mr and Mrs Challenge, Wasps players and former house mates James Gaskell and Kearnan Myall trialled the quiz at the club’s Broadstreet training base, with slightly less successful results than Karen and Gary.

Verity Brown, events and match day marketing manager at Wasps, said: “We are delighted to hand over two free season tickets to Karen and Gary and would like to congratulate them on their success on the Mr and Mrs Challenge.

“It isn’t an easy thing to do and can potentially lead to a few disagreements but they had every right to be confident with entering.”

Season memberships for the 2019/19 season are available now from the Wasps ticket office and by visiting
