Message for the Fans from our CEO
“Back in early March, with the team closing in on the top four following three superb wins, few could have imagined how different the world was about to look.
“Since then, we have been dealing with an unprecedented crisis that will have far reaching consequences for the communities in which we live. This club has been working tirelessly to ensure we deal with the challenges this situation presents, so we come out of this stronger and more resilient than ever.
“Few of us will have known a time where there has been such substantial change to our day to day personal and professional lives. The Wasps family will face this together.
“The financial impact this is having on you and the club is significant. Which is why the support, patience and understanding we have had from far and wide has been all the more remarkable.
“On behalf of everyone at the Club, I would like to thank our supporters, partners and the wider community who have been amazing in their backing. We have been overwhelmed by the many messages, calls and emails from long-standing members and new fans alike, who have contacted us confirming their on-going commitment.
“When I look at the social media reaction to our recent ticket credit statement and see the huge number of comments from supporters saying the Club means more to them than getting any money back, it shows me yet again just how important Wasps is to so many people.
“Premiership Rugby recently announced the restart of the 2019/20 season. This is a day we have all been looking forward to and it has brought a much needed sense of relief and excitement as we build up to our first game back on Sunday 16 August.
“Our priority has been, and will continue to be, the health and wellbeing of our staff, players, partners, supporters and their families. Even though we’d all love nothing more than to be playing rugby again in front of our incredible supporters, playing behind closed doors has become a necessary interim measure.
“The Government has now announced that stadiums will potentially be able to welcome fans back from October, and we are putting a number of measures in place to ensure we are ready for this. However, there is still a lot of uncertainty and we all need to work together to ensure this crisis does not undermine the viability of clubs such as ourselves, particularly given the important role sport plays in our daily lives.
“There is no escaping the fact that the prospect of offering refunds on a mass scale is a difficult task, as ticketing and hospitality sales make up a significant proportion of revenue so losing this income will lead to further financial difficulties for all sports clubs – not only Wasps. With this in mind, and having listened to supporters, we put together a range of options that we believe will not only help the club get through these turbulent times but also offer our loyal fans choices to suit their own circumstances.
“Over the next few weeks, starting today, all ticket and hospitality purchasers, Clubhouse members and those with seasonal parking will be receiving an email outlining the process for using the credit available to them. The Club will continue to communicate with you as and when we are able to, and let you know how any further changes may affect you. This is a rapidly changing environment, and we will keep you updated.
