McIntyre commits to Wasps

Date: 25 Dec 2018

Wasps are delighted to confirm that loosehead prop Simon McIntyre has signed a new deal to remain at the Club.

The 27-year-old is one of five first-team players to commit his future to the Club this week following in the footsteps of fellow prop Ben Harris, hooker Tommy Taylor, fly half Jimmy Gopperth and versatile forward Ashley Johnson.

McIntyre has already amassed 153 appearances in the Black and Gold since moving from Sale Sharks in 2011.

In his early days, the Manchester-born front rower was primarily a tighthead, playing his rugby at Broughton Park prior to joining the Sale Academy in 2009, from where he made six senior appearances for the Sharks.

McIntyre said: “I’ve been at the Club for eight years and I’ve loved every minute of it.

“I came to the Club to push on and test myself at the top of the game. Having been part of a fantastic team which has reached European Cup quarter-finals and semi-finals as well as regularly competing for the Premiership title, this is where I intend to continue to push towards with Wasps.

“Playing in the final in 2017 at Twickenham was such a memorable day and I want to be part of more special occasions like that in the coming years, fighting to win trophies.

“We’ve got everything in place to push on and with the tremendous support we’ve received since moving up to Coventry, I have no doubt that the Club is moving forward in the right direction.”

Wasps Director of Rugby Dai Young said: “Simon has been one of our consistent performers for a number of seasons now, so we’re delighted he’s signed a new deal.

“It’s fantastic that we’re getting a core group of players signing new deals ahead of 2019/20 as it helps us build stability and consistency within the squad and we’re pleased with how things are shaping up.”
