England add Nathan Hughes to Wasps contingent
Date: 30 May 2018
Wasps No.8 Nathan Hughes has been added to England’s squad for the summer tour of South Africa.
The powerhouse back-rower started the Premiership semi-final ten days ago after recuperating from a knee injury.
Since then he has been part of England’s preparations for last weekend’s Barbarians clash.
Hughes replaces his clubmate Jack Willis who suffered a knee ligament rupture against Saracens.
Fellow Wasps Joe Launchbury, Elliot Daly and Dan Robson are also part of the tour as is soon-to-be Gloucester fly half Danny Cipriani and incoming flanker Brad Shields.
And following the recent Springbok squad announcement, they will go head-to-head with clubmate Willie Le Roux, who is one of five European-based players recalled by Rassie Erasmus.
Wasps’ supporters’ player-of-the-season is joined by Sale’s Faf de Klerk, Toulon’s Duane Vermeulen plus Montpellier pair Frans Steyn and Bismarck du Plessis who are all recalled following relaxation in their country’s selection regulations.
Nizaam Carr, who appeared 11 times for Wasps in the autumn while on loan from the Stormers is also named in South African 43-man squad for the England series and this Saturday’s one-off clash with Wales.
