Dust Your Boots Off! Le Bourgeois visits Old Leamingtonians RFC

Date: 9 Sep 2019

Old Leamingtonians Rugby Club’s players have got their season underway with the help of three star players from Wasps.

Wasps centre Michael Le Bourgeois recently visited the club’s Bericote Road base to offer the club’s junior and mixed ability teams some gameplay tips, such as formations and running techniques as part of the build-up to the new season.

That was followed up with news that Wasps hooker Tom Cruse and loosehead-prop Ben Harris have joined Old Leamingtonians as forwards coaches for the 2019/20 season, which will see them coaching the first-team two nights a week.

“Having players of Tom’s, Ben’s and Michael’s stature associated with the club is a real boost for us, and will hopefully spur all of our teams on for the coming campaign,” said Phil Eales, Chairman at Old Leamingtonians Rugby Club.

“It was a fantastic opportunity for some of our younger players to hear from Michael about how things are done at an elite level, especially with regards to preparation and recovery after a game, as well as some pointers on how to develop their game on the pitch.

“We are also looking forward to picking the brains of Tom and Ben over the coming season on integrating some of their elite-level advice into our play.”

Wasps players Cruse, Harris and Le Bourgeois are gearing up for Wasps’ first game of the season on Saturday 21 September at Ricoh Arena against Saracens in the Premiership Rugby Cup.

Le Bourgeois added: “Grassroots clubs such as Old Leamingtonians are essential to the long-term development of the game and producing the next generation of players and supporters, so coaching at community clubs such as OLs is a great way of giving something back.

“We gave the players an insight into what life is like during pre-season at elite level and hopefully we have given them some new training methods to ponder and try out throughout the season.”

Wasps will be returning to Bericote Road on Wednesday 18 September to coach Old Leamingtonians’ “Inner Warrior” training session, which is open to all females aged 11 and over.
