Ben Morris extends Wasps stay

Date: 28 Mar 2019

Wasps are pleased to reveal that back row Ben Morris has become the 12th first-team player this season to commit his future to the Club, after signing a new contract.

The 27-year-old arrived at Ricoh Arena from Nottingham Rugby in 2018, having impressed in the back row alongside current Wasps Academy Coach Matt Everard and working under the tutelage of the now Wasps Defence Coach Ian Costello.

The 6ft 3in forward, who has also operated in the second row on occasions, began his rugby with Leeds Carnegie while still at school, before being picked up by the Newcastle Falcons Academy.

After two seasons on loan at National League Blaydon, he also won England Counties honours and represented Rotherham Titans in the Championship while on dual registration, before moving south to Nottingham in 2015 where he made 70 senior appearances.

Wasps Director of Rugby Dai Young said: “Ben has been a tremendous professional since arriving at the Club and he’s certainly stepped up to the task every time he’s been presented with an opportunity.

“We obviously have a lot of competition in the back row but we feel there’s plenty more to come from Ben. He’s a hungry player and we’re looking forward to seeing more of him in action.”

Morris, who has played 15 games for Wasps in the current season, added: “It’s been great to get a taste of Premiership and Champions Cup rugby this season and now it’s certainly my target to play more.

“I’ve really enjoyed making the move to Ricoh Arena and I want to keep challenging for a place in the first-team to show what I can do.”
