The Role

Based at the Coventry Building Society Arena, this newly created role, the Head of Marketing and Communications will be responsible for the strategy and delivery of marketing and communications, actively contributing to growing revenue through cost-effective comms, and creating innovative and engaging stories and campaigns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To develop innovative, effective and creative marketing and communication strategies to drive growth and promote the Wasps Sport business (men’s and women’s rugby, netball, Academy, community, Foundation and Legends)

  • Lead the delivery of a content plan that places Wasps at the heart of the conversation as both a sports and lifestyle brand

  • Create and lead a central marketing and comms plan that delivers the agreed business plan objectives, driving revenue and engagement across all of the Club’s commercial operations, including matchday, ticketing, merchandising, sponsorship and corporate hospitality

  • Produce creative briefs for all major marketing campaigns, including Season Memberships, match tickets, kit launches and matchday hospitality

  • Development of a digital, multi-channel strategy, working with the Chief Commercial Officer to propose how to better engage our target audiences

  • Deliver internal and external campaigns across sport, education and community sectors to challenge discrimination, encourage inclusive practices and campaign for positive change

  • Ensure the club engages with a diverse audience, ensuring all target audiences are communicated with regularly, positively and consistently, measuring impact and effectiveness

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of media contacts to ensure that the Club is represented prominently and positively in the media, whilst ensuring that all Club and competition press & media obligations are fulfilled

  • Drive a culture of data capture across the business in order to significantly grow the database, better understand current and future fans, and to propose new products and services

  • Work with the Commercial team to develop and deliver compelling sales collateral e.g. hospitality brochures, introductory presentations

  • Overall responsibility for the Marketing & Comms budget

  • Develop and maintain the brand values, toolkit and guidelines

  • Lead focus groups and audience insight across internal stakeholders to continue to learn and refine


  • An experienced marketer with 5+ years of marketing/comms/PR/commercial experience

  • Have proven track record of executing successful campaigns that generate revenue

  • Experience of implementing and measuring impact of marketing and comms activity to drive business wide activity

  • An understanding of the sports industry and experience of working within it would be advantageous

  • Knowledge of and be able to demonstrate planning and delivering digital marketing campaigns, including web, SEO/SEM, email, social media and display advertising

  • Experience of dealing with the media

  • Demonstrated ability in managing and motivating a multidisciplinary team

  • Clear understanding of the importance and potential of CRM systems and databases

  • Experience creating, developing and protecting a brand

Hours of work: 35 hours per week plus 1 hour unpaid lunch break

Term: Full Time / Permanent
