Nathan Hughes

Hughes joined Wasps from Auckland for the start of the 2013/14 season. He suffered with injury towards the beginning of the season but soon became a huge part of the squad and an impressive back rower. Hughes made 19 appearances and scored four tries for the Club, he also won four MOTM awards for his performances and was nominated for Young Player of the Year.

The Fijian-born player was hugely impressive while playing for Auckland in their 2013 ITM Cup campaign, playing a key role in helping his side reach the final.

While featuring mainly at number 8 for Auckland, Hughes can also play at blindside flanker and at lock.

The 26-year-old had an impressive campaign in 2014/15, making 28 appearances for the club, scoring 10 tries and making the Aviva Premiership Dream Team alongside teammates Matt Mullan, Joe Simpson and Christian Wade.

Nathan continued his fine form in 2015/16, putting in some barnstorming performances as part of an impressive back row unit, playing 27 times and scoring six tries in the process.

In the autumn of 2016 Hughes qualified for England through residency and made his debut against South Africa in November. Hughes was again selected in the England squad for the 2017 Six Nations and toured Argentina with England in the summer.

Hughes started playing rugby at St Thomas High School in Lautoka, Fiji in 2008. Coming from a hockey background, Hughes credits the thrill and physical intensity of the game of rugby which lured him into giving it a try.
