Mark Van Gisbergen joined Wasps from Waikato, in New Zealand in 2002/03. Followers of Wasps will know that the little man with the big heart is one of the unsung heroes of the team.

Mark qualified for England in September 2005, and was immediately selected for Andy Robinson's England squad for the Autumn international Series. Although his international career did not flourish his domestic displays have established him as a stalwart of Premiership rugby.

In 2006/07 Mark racked up an impressive 128 points, including two tries and made 22 appearances for the Heineken Cup winning side despite picking up a nasty jaw injury at the start of the season. Competition has increased for the number 15 shirt over the course of the last season with youngster Danny Cipriani vying for the position however, Mark has continued to put out strong displays and crossed the 1000 point mark for Wasps and now in 2007/08 he has run in over 150 appearances for the club.

Away from rugby Mark enjoys golf, surfing and is a big fan of music festivals ' attending Glastonbury last summer. He lists his best rugby moment as a toss up between his involvement in Wasps v Munster in the 2004 Heineken Cup semi final or the game against Tolouse also played in the Heineken Cup.

He is a qualified electrician and who did not actually play professional rugby until joining Wasps, having balanced his career and rugby back home in New Zealand.

Mark credits former Wasps coach Warren Gatland, Tony Hanks and current Head Coach Shaun Edwards as influential figures in his career. His aims for the new season are to simply to enjoy playing rugby and continue with his efforts to ensure Wasps remain a successful team.
