Dan was born in New Zealand, but moved with his family to Australia when he was 18, due to his father's work commitments. Before joining Wasps, Dan had played all of his senior rugby for the Sunnybank club and Queensland Reds Super 14 team. He is a committed family man and church goer, who enjoys community work with youth groups and has formerly studied Communications - something he has looked to continue with since joining Wasps.
An easy going man off the pitch, Dan prides himself on his positive mindset on the pitch, saying, "I'm never going to be the biggest guy on the pitch, but I believe that rugby is more about the right mindset than anything else. I pride myself on that and the aggression that I can bring to a game."
Dan underlined his pedigree early, stepping off his right foot to leave the full back for dead and score under the posts in his debut for the AXV. Not long after he was starting for the 1XV, but probably Dan's biggest moment came in the Powergen Cup Final at Twickenham.
Injury to Jonny O'Connor in the first minute of the game meant Dan played the entire game, and helped Wasps to secure their sixth piece of silverware in four years, as they beat Llanelli Scarlets to claim the Powergen Cup.
He continued as a vital member of the Wasps side following his valiant appearance at Twickenham with Joe Worsley, Tom Rees, Jonny O'Connor and John Hart all unavailable for significant parts of the season through injury.
2006/07 allowed Dan to prove his ability making a total of 23 appearances with the club, a popular member of the side not only for his rugby displays but also for his hairstyles he became an icon off pitch with the London Wasps supporters. International recognition also followed for Dan at the 2007 Rugby World Cup in the Samoan Rugby World Cup squad where he put out some strong performances, returning to the club with a new added depth to his game for 2007/08.
