A long-serving coach at London Wasps, Rob steered the club to the first professional league championship success in the 1996/97 season after playing for Wasps between 1974 and 1985. Before the introduction of the professional game, Rob helped Wasps to win 2 league titles and finishing runner up on a further 3 occasions. Never out of the top 4 in any season during his Wasps 1st XV coaching days Rob also played in and coached Wasps to Middlesex 7's titles.
Born in Bristol, Rob attended Filton High Grammar School in Bristol before training at Borough Road College as a physical education teacher, teaching at Holland Park School in West London for 10 years up to 1985.
Rob played for British Colleges, Middlesex and London Division at senior level, the highlight being playing in front of 100,000 capacity crowd at Ellis Park in 1974 against Transvaal for Middlesex. Rob was persuaded to take on a coaching role at Wasps in 1985 and remained in that post through to the start of 2000 where he took up the position of Academy Manager. Since taking up that role Rob has guided many young players from the Wasps Academy designated regions of Middlesex, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire through to Senior International honours, with a highlight being a full English back row selection of Tom Rees, James Haskell and Joe Worsley.
