Former England 7s player Tom Varndell will bring a wealth of experience in the short form of the game to a squad which also includes senior Wasps squad players Matt Everard, Guy Thompson, Jack Moates and Charlie Hayter.

Varndell said: “I love playing 7s and I am really excited about the opportunity we’ve got this weekend. This is an exciting young group and hopefully my experience will be a help. The whole squad head to France this Sunday for a week-long pre season camp and we’d love to go there after a great performance on Saturday night.”

A number of promising players from the London Wasps Academy group will also be looking to make a big impact on Saturday night.

Speedsters Tom Howe and Liam O’Neill will both be looking to catch the eye with their exciting pace and footwork while Oskar Hirskyj-Douglas, Will Rowlands and Gus Jones will add some young forward fire power. Sam Egerton joins the squad from Oxford University and Loughborough University provide George Eastwell, a player who already has strong links with the London Wasps Academy set up.

London Wasps have been drawn in Group C alongside Saracens, Harlequins and defending Champions London Irish and will battle it out this Saturday at Allianz Park with games beginning at 19.15.

The runners up and winner of each group will go through to the Series Final which takes place on Friday, 9 August at the Recreation Ground in Bath.

The whole of the Series including the final will be broadcast live on the new BT Sport channel.
