On Friday 22nd February 2013 the RFU Council agreed that the "New Rules of Play" at Under 7,8 & 9 will be mandatory from 2013. Buckinghamshire will also be playing the Under 10 new rules as they chose to trial Under 7s to Under 9s last year. There are some fundamental changes in rules at these ages to simplify delivery and to introduce the game in incremental stages to help children to learn and enjoy playing the game. The philosophy of a child-centred approach to the game by clubs, coaches & other volunteers is central to the success of the programme.
With this in mind, the RFU will be running an acquaint sessions for parents and coaches of the Under 9 & Under 10 age groups as it is the first time they will be playing contact rugby. The session will be led by Tony Robinson (RFU Player Development Officer). It will provide the rationale for the changes in addition to practical demonstrations. Although this will answer many of the questions you may have, we will be able to provide further clarity on the evening. The date and venues is as follows:
