Four of the clubs’ rising stars make the shortlist of six for the LV= Young Player of the Year Award while two players feature in the Computacenter Players’ Player of the Year Award shortlist.
Christian Wade, Billy Vunipola, Joe Launchbury and Elliot Daly face competition from Saracens prop Mako Vunipola and Exeter Chiefs’ wing Jack Nowell for the LV= Young Player of the Year Award.
Wade or Joe Launchbury could complete a unique double by becoming the first player to be crowned Computacenter Players’ Player of the Year and LV= Young Player of the Year in the same season.
Wade and Launchbury are also shortlisted for the Computacenter Players’ Player of the Year award alongside Julian Salvi (Leicester), Danny Care (Harlequins), Tom Young (Leicester) and Mako Vunipola (Saracens)
The winners will be announced in front of a host of stars from the world of rugby at The RPA Computacenter Players’ Awards 2013, to be held at Battersea Evolution, London on Wednesday 22nd May. The Awards ceremony will be broadcast on Sky Sports’ Rugby Club on Thursday 23rd May.
Joe Launchbury: “It’s a massive honour to be nominated. To be recognised and voted for by your peers is what means most to the players. I’m absolutely delighted and surprised, particularly to make the shortlist for the main Computacenter Players’ Player of the Year. That’s a big shock to be part of the top list when there are so many amazing players in the Aviva Premiership. We’ve been playing some good rugby at Wasps and I owe a lot to the Club and the team to allow me to be in this position.
Christian Wade: “I’m quite shocked to hear I have made both shortlists. I was hoping I might be in with a chance of being nominated for the LV= Young Player of the Year category but to also feature on the shortlist for the Computacenter Players’ Player is a truly humbling moment. I have so much respect for the more experienced players in the game and so to be acknowledged by some of them and to have your hard work recognised by the people you play against week in, week out, is an absolutely awesome feeling. It’s great to see so many players from Wasps on the list. Last year was tough for us but it gave us a bag of experience which has come in useful for this season and helped us all to progress.”
Elliott Daly: “Looking at the younger guys in the Aviva Premiership there are so many good names to choose from so it’s fantastic to be included. It’s also really good for the Club to have so many young players coming through and to feature on the list. Hopefully that bodes well for the coming seasons and it is great credit to the team and coaches at London Wasps to have so many young players on the list.”
Billy Vunipola: “I’d like to thank any players who voted for me. It is fantastic to see three other Wasps players also on the shortlist and I’m really grateful to be included amongst so many talented players, including my brother!”
