Match Day Tag Rugby Challenge v Northampton Saints

Read about three community partner clubs providing Tag Rugby players for our half-time showcase

On Saturday 23rd March, the London Wasps Community Team welcomed Tag Rugby players from Aylesbury RFC, Beaconsfield RFC and Windsor RFC to Adams Park Stadium. The players were taking part in the half-time Tag Rugby Challenge during our Aviva Premiership Rugby fixture against Northampton Saints.

What is Tag Rugby?
Tag Rugby is a game played by teams of up to seven players. Each player wears a belt that has two velcro tags attached to it. The defenders have to pull one of the velcro tags from the ball-carrying attacking player, to force the player to pass the ball. The game is fast and exciting and develops the players’ agility, balance & coordination while focusing on the FUNdamental core skills of non-contact rugby.

Before the Tag Challenge, each team had a squad photo on the pitch with London Wasps (and former Windsor RFC) wing James Bailey and our character mascot Sting.

Following the Tag Challenge, Community Rugby Coach Ben Smiley told wasps.co.uk: "There was some excellent attacking play in evidence from London Wasps on Saturday, and it must have inspired some of the Tag Rugby players, who themselves demonstrated some outstanding individual and team attacks. With the addition of meeting a local "home grown" player in James Bailey, hopefully there will be some very motivated young rugby players out there this week!"
