The new award given each month to the best Under-23 player playing in Aviva Premiership Rugby is given to Wade, who has been in scintillating form as London Wasps have launched their campaign to reach the semi-finals.
Wade is Aviva Premiership Rugby’s second highest try scorer in the 2012 / 13 season only three tries behind teammate Tom Varndell.
Wade - who wins the award based on performances in January - beat London Irish wing Marlande Yarde and Bath Rugby outside-half Tom Heathcote, the two other players who made the shortlist. The award was made for Wade's performances in all matches in January, not just those in Aviva Premiership Rugby.
Wade was chosen by a panel chaired by Premiership Rugby's Director of Communications, Paul Morgan. The panel members are: Land Rover ambassador Josh Lewsey, Gavin Mairs (Daily Telegraph), Alex Lowe (Press Association), Chris Foy (Daily Mail), Alastair Eykyn (Five Live), Alan Pearey (Rugby World), Graham Jenkins (Espnscrum.com) and Mike Hynard, the Head of Academies and Development at Premiership Rugby.
Lewsey said: "Christian has been consistently one of the most entertaining and innovative players in Aviva Premiership Rugby over the last couple of seasons and specifically in January this year. To that end, as part of his on-going development I’m delighted to see that he is getting the recognition such dedication and ability deserves.”
Wade is also currently up for nomination for the Aviva Premiership try of the week for his stunning effort against Gloucester. Cast your vote here!
