Tim Payne coaching at our QBE Rugby Pro event
On Saturday 2nd February London Wasps players Tim Payne, Tom Palmer and Mark Bailey were at High Wycombe RUFC to support a specialist training session for Crowborough RFC U8s; winners of the QBE Rugby Pro competition. Members of the squad trained with the London Wasps Rugby players and community coaches Ben Smiley & Lee Salmon courtesy of QBE, the business insurance specialist.
They are one of twelve grassroots rugby clubs across the country to be awarded a training session with Premiership Rugby players. In addition, the club received £1,000 worth of training equipment. The prizes were awarded to clubs who demonstrated how winning the training session and equipment would benefit the development of the club. The judges were impressed by Crowborough's resilience and determination to encourage more youngsters to get involved in the game. The club’s enthusiasm and ambition also shone through in the entry.
The training session provided the Crowborough RFC U8s squad with the rare opportunity to learn from professionals and pick up specialist advice on core rugby skills and game play. This was followed by a meet and greet with the London Wasps players before making their way to Adams Park Stadium for our LV= Cup fixture versus Sale Sharks.
At Adams Park, the squad were photographed with our No.8 Billy Vunipola before forming the Tunnel of Honour to welcome the Wasps and Sharks players on to the pitch.
Tom Palmer, England & London Wasps second row, said, "QBE Rugby Pro is a fantastic opportunity for professional rugby to give something back to the grassroots game. It has been fun working with Crowborough RFC through QBE Rugby, and I hope that their access to London Wasps today will inspire them further."

Gavin Richardson, Crowborough RFC U8s Head Coach, said, "The training session taken by the Wasps players and coaches was a great success as our team got the opportunity to develop a number of new skills. Hopefully this will greatly benefit the squad throughout the remainder of the season. We are very grateful to QBE for this fantastic experience and the new training equipment."
