Davies hungry for European success

Ahead of this Saturday's Amlin Challenge Cup fixture with Mogliano, Charlie Davies says his team will have to be on top of their game if they are to come away with the result they want.

Moving into the Amlin Challenge Cup this weekend, Wasps sit on top of their pool with both Bayonne and Newport Gwent Dragons snapping at their heels. A bonus point this weekend could guarantee qualification to the knock out stages if both Bayonne and the Dragons fail to achieve the same in their respective fixtures. Having reached the Quarter Final stages last season, Davies says that the team are eager to improve upon that with this year’s efforts.

“The Amlin Challenge Cup is a big competition for us. It is an opportunity to get silverware at the end of the season and that is ultimately what you play for, to win. Winning it also guarantees you a Heineken Cup spot. We have done well so far this year in what was a tough group and the boys are excited to play in this competition. We got to the Quarter Finals last year and we would love to improve upon that this time around.”

Wasps host Mogliano at Adams Park on Saturday, kick off 3pm, and, having beaten the Italian side 59-12 at the Stadio Maurizio Quaggia, Davies says that his team cannot underestimate their opponents if they are stand a chance of getting anywhere near the result they are after.

“The worst thing that we could do would be to turn up at the weekend expecting to get the same kind of result we did last time. The reason we did so well when we played out there was we respected them and we played hard, fast rugby. They may not play top flight rugby but they have some very good players and we will need to front up if we are to get the result we want. We want to get a bonus point and we are going to have to work very hard to get that. There is nothing they would like better than to come to our place, where we haven’t lost all season, and beat a Premiership side. It is going to be tough but I think the boys are all looking forward to it.”
