When we host Rugby Mogliano in the Amlin Challenge Cup on Saturday 12th January, we will be welcoming over 1,200 local children and their families for, what will be for many, their first taste of professional rugby. "Sting's Free Pass" is a FREE opportunity for the participants and families of our Schools Programme to experience the London Wasps Match Day and see our professional players use several of the skills that were coached during their lessons and activities.
Since September 2010 our Community Team have engaged with over 170 State and Independent Schools through the London Wasps Community Schools Programme. During this period we have delivered a variety of programmes including the Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme, CoacHclass After School Tag Rugby Clubs, ESPN Masterclasses, Independent Schools Programme, NSPCC Kick Bullying into Touch Programme, MBNA Tackling Numbers Programme, and Try It, Love It, Club It Programme; where over 70,000 participants have benefited from rugby-led projects since the start of the 2010/11 academic year.
Ahead of the visit of over 1,200 new rugby supporters to Adams Park Stadium, Community Rugby Coach Ben Smiley told wasps.co.uk, "The London Wasps Community Foundation delivers a variety of high quality, bespoke rugby programme to state primary & secondary schools, and Independent Schools all over the South-East of England. This initiative will help us to provide the children, their families and schools with the opportunity to experience a London Wasps Match Day and demonstrate how the in-school rugby activities link directly to professional rugby players. These associated links include the practical rugby skills we coached, the tactics used, the fitness and health of the players, working as a team and demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship throughout."
As a part of Sting's Free Pass, two children were randomly selected to represent two of our leading schools programmes as Match day Mascots. Thomas from Lent Rise Primary School will represent our Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme, while Daisy from Stokenchurch Primary School is our MBNA Tackling Numbers Mascot.
The London Wasps Community Schools Programme has spaces throughout this academic year. If you would like your school to get involved, please contact us here.
