Seven Wasps get England call-ups

Seven London Wasps players have been named in the England Senior and Saxons squads.

James Haskell and Joe Launchbury are named in the Senior Elite Players Squad (EPS) following the Autumn QBE Internationals, where both players played an important role in the successful end to the series and Launchbury’s meteoric rise saw him being named as QBE man of the series.

Tom Palmer moves to the England Saxons squad and will be joined there by Joe Simpson, Christian Wade, Billy Vunipola and Elliot Daly.

It's the first time that Vunipola and Daly have featured in the England Saxons squad and their selection reflects their consistently impressive performances for London Wasps. Vunipola has also been invited to train with the Senior EPS in Leeds.

Disappointingly, the Premiership's top try scorer Tom Varndell misses out on selection.

This year's representation by London Wasps players is a remarkable increase from last year where the Club had only two players named across both squads and shows the breadth of young talent emerging under the guidance of Dai Young and his team.

Director of Rugby Dai Young added his congratulations to the Wasps players selected.

“It’s fantastic to see seven of our players selected for international duty. I think that is a real indication of the massive improvement among our squad this season and I am very pleased our players are getting the recognition they deserve. I have always seen that a key part of my job is to help develop players for the English national squad and I wish them all the best of luck in the weeks ahead.”
