The win sees Wasps stay unbeaten at home this season with six wins from six in all competitions.
“We are really pleased to get the win. Leicester being Leicester just don’t go away and they were always in with a chance, but in reality we should have won it more comfortably than we did. We produced a lot of clean line breaks and we were one pass away a few times from scoring that try that would have made it more difficult for them. They didn’t threaten us enough in our half so we were comfortable in defence.”
“We dominated the game and with two minutes to go we could have lost it but there are far more positives than negatives tonight.
“We had tight games last season that slipped away from us but the thinking in the last few minutes out there was good – you could see players talking to each other about not giving away penalties and we were sensible. We gave a lot of penalties away which kept them in the game but some of our young guys out there were great. The two young props Simon McIntyre and Phil Swainston did very well, James Cannon in the second row really stood up, Elliot Daly was a real threat out wide and Sam Jones came off the bench and contributed to a good back-row effort again.
“I would have taken a home win against Leicester before the game – it’s not a bad place to be to be nit-picking after the game after a win over Leicester. We’ve got a tough week ahead preparing for Exeter but it’s nice to go into it after another home win in front of a very good crowd.”
