The new strip will be worn throughout the upcoming 2012-13 season with its first outing coming at the 2012 J.P. Morgan Premiership Rugby 7s tonight.
The Replica Pro-Fit jersey is the exact same garment as will be worn by the players – and is Kukri’s elite Rugby garment.
Kukri’s Head of Product Creation Louise Pullan explains, “We’re really excited about the new partnership with Wasps, and we’ve worked exceptionally hard on developing the product and design specifications for the new kit. The team will be wearing Kukri’s elite Rugby jersey, made from our high-tech Si-Flex material, which is technically engineered to stretch to the contours of the players body, wick sweat away and offer total durability. It’s designed to retain its tight fit, while allowing the players total freedom of movement and stretching to meet the rigours of elite level Rugby. We can’t wait to see the team wearing it this season!”
Maintaining the historic Wasps colours of black and gold, the design is sublimated, meaning that all design panels and logos are printed into the fabric, keeping the jersey light, comfortable and abrasion-free. The club makes history, meanwhile, by becoming the first professional sports team in the UK to feature its Twitter handle (@WaspsRugby) on the reverse of the Power-Stretch collar.
The jersey will also be available to supporters in two other fabric options.
The Replica Pro jersey is made from the strong and durable Kohilo 100% Polyester fabric. Coming in a relaxed, comfortable fit for wearing on the terraces, this jersey is durable, quick-drying and easy to look after. It comes with embroidered Wasps and Kukri branding on the chest, and a stylish Y-neck collar. Panels are again sublimated into the fabric to keep the garment as light and comfortable as possible.
A Replica Supporters jersey will also be available to Wasps fans. Coming in a classic mix of 60% Cotton 40% Polyester, and a traditional Rugby collar with Brit placket, it’s a rugby classic and sure to be a popular item. With a relaxed fit, it’s designed to be a comfortable fit for on the terraces and away from the stadium. The Wasps and Kukri logos are embroidered on the chest, with sponsors logos printed, and the panels are cut and sewn into the jersey for a robust, traditional finish. The @WaspsRugby Twitter handle again features, this time very subtly on the underside of the collar in keeping with the traditional feel of the jersey.
The launch of the jersey coincided with a new and improved Wasps shop, developed and managed by Kukri Sports, at www.waspsshop.co.uk
The new online shop is open for pre-orders, and will also stock a full, exciting range of training and leisurewear. The Club's shops at the Eden Centre and Adams Park are currently being refurbished are due to reopen on Saturday July 21st.
