Sting donates rugby shirts to Millbrook Combined School

The High Wycombe school receive 25 brand new rugby shirts from Gilbert Rugby as part of Ian McGeechan's Guinness Premiership Director of Rugby of the Month Award for March 2008

On Friday 18th July our Community Rugby Coach Ben Smiley went with Sting and the Guinness Premiership Trophy to Millbrook Combined School in High Wycombe. London Wasps had been invited by Sheila Crouch to help celebrate joint successes in May: London Wasps winning the Guinness Premiership at Twickenham and Millbrook had a very successful OFSTED Inspection and report.

During the assembly, Ben talked about the skills and attributes that the London Wasps team used and needed throughout the season to win the Guinness Premiership in front of nearly 82,000 people at Twickenham. With Sting's help, Ben went on to ask the children how they might be able to apply the skills to their own lives, and together, they came up with the following:

  • Working as a team - In their classroom's the children are in a team and need to co-operate in order to complete the tasks properly
  • Trying to improve - Even London Wasps players continue to train to improve their skills, so the children can always try to improve their skills, whatever they are
  • Eating Healthily - Eating a balanced diet is very important, so that the children, and the players get a bit of everything that is good for them
  • Being Active - London Wasps train for about 4 hours a day, and all children should try to do at least 1 hour a day
  • Listen to the Coaches - The children's coaches are their teachers and their parents, and it is important to listen to them

At the end of assembly, Sting and Ben had a special announcement. As a result of Ian McGeechan winning the Guinness Premiership Director of Rugby for March 2008, we were asked to nominate a school in the London Wasps Community to receive 25 Gilbert Rugby Shirts. Sting helped to hand the shirts out, and posed for photos afterwards.

Whenever we have done anything at Millbrook Combined School, we have been treated very well by the staff and the children. The school have always tried to support our events, and we would like to reward them and the children with the shirts to say "thank you".

Following the assembly, Ben told wasps.co.uk, "Whenever we have done anything at Millbrook Combined School, we have been treated very well by the staff and the children. The school have always tried to support our events, and we would like to reward them and the children with the shirts to say "thank you". The school is used as a satellite park & walk venue on London Wasps match days, which gives many supporters an opportunity to reduce congestion at Adams Park and gain from the health benefits of a brisk walk."
