Wasps U18s one game from finals day
Wasps Academy U18s face Northampton Saints in the final round of Premiership North action on Saturday week knowing a win will book them an Allianz Park finals day appearance on March 11.
And depending on results elsewhere, the black-and-gold youngsters could still be part of the contest between the winners of the Northern and Southern divisions that determines which club lifts the title.
The competition is of great importance from a player development perspective, and Academy Pathways Manager Matt Williams has been pleased by the progress made by a number of Wasps’ young prospects.
“Despite struggling against Leicester last weekend, the team have put together a good campaign so far,” he said.
“This has been reflected by Sam Spink, Cameron Anderson and Taju Atta all earning themselves chances to impress the senior coaches in the Anglo-Welsh Cup over the last fortnight.
“But we are taking nothing for granted against Saints, and will have to be at our best to get the win we need when we go down to Bedford School on February 17.”

After holding their own during the opening quarter against Leicester at Bicester, Wasps conceded twice before the interval, then a third time soon after.
The highlight of the day from a black-and-gold perspective was provided by Atta’s try which followed Nic Jakobsen’s break and Tom Bacon’s chip ahead.
However, the Tigers went on to claim five further tries and ran out comfortable 52-5 bonus-point winners.
