Wasps team to face Ospreys

Wasps return home to the Ricoh Arena this Sunday as they host Ospreys in the final pool stage game of the Anglo Welsh Cup, kick off 3pm.

Heading into the final pool round, Wasps’ side is boosted by a number of first-team regulars who are named in the squad ahead of next week’s return to Aviva Premiership action.

Alapati Leiua, Frank Halai, Carlo Festuccia, Simon McIntyre and James Gaskell are all added to the starting line-up, with Gaskell captaining the side. Guy Armitage switches from wing to inside centre, to join Brendan Macken in Wasps’ midfield.

There are also added reinforcements among the replacements, with Kearnan Myall and Jake Cooper-Woolley named among the substitutes, the latter set to make a welcome return from injury having been side-lined since mid-December.

Academy players Will Stuart, Jack Willis and Piers O’Conor all keep their places in the starting team, alongside Marcus Garratt and Will Rowlands who form the second row partnership, while Alex Rieder again packs down at no.8

Warren Seals, on loan from Yorkshire Carnegie, is handed a start at 10, in the absence of Jacob Umaga who is with England U20s, lining up outside Craig Hampson at scrum half.

Tom Willis, Will Porter, Tom Howe, Tom Bristow and Nick De Luca are named on the bench, where there is also a place for former London Welsh hooker Adam Kwasnicki, who joined up with the squad this week.

Ahead of Sunday’s final Anglo Welsh Cup pool stage game, Assistant Forwards Coach Andy Titterrell said, “It was a disappointing result last weekend against Exeter Chiefs, which saw us knocked out of this competition, but there were some positives to take from the game, especially for the younger players.

“Despite the scoreline, there were some good individual performances. This competition always provides a fantastic opportunity for players who haven’t played a lot of rugby to get some valuable game-time under their belts.

“Sunday’s game sees us return home to the Ricoh Arena where we always want to put in a good performance in front of our home crowd and the players will feel a responsibility to do that again at the weekend.

“Ospreys are top of the Pro 12 and have won their last 10 games in a row coming into this match, so we know the quality outfit we’re up against. We don’t meet many Pro 12 teams and I believe it’s six years since Wasps last played Ospreys. I’m sure our lads will want to put right last week’s result and I expect a good reaction from us collectively."
