Wasps welcome Lear Corporation as Main Academy Partner

Wasps Academy are delighted to announce an official partnership with Lear Corporation to be the official Main Academy Partner.

As a part of the partnership, Lear Corporation will lend support to the funding of the Academy programme, which aims to develop and strengthen future talent within Wasps.  

With more than 240 sites across 36 countries and with approximately 140,000 employees, Lear is consistently recognised as a Global Leader in Automotive Seating and E-Systems.

With their UK Headquarters in Coventry; Lear has always sought to play a key role in supporting the local area through various community programmes over a number of years, which echo one of their company’s values. Lear’s commitment will enhance the quality and development of over 350 players currently being coached through the Academy Programme. With over twenty games for the U15, U16 and U18 squads, Wasps’ Academy regularly plays against other Academies from England, Wales and Ireland as well as playing in the Academy U18 league.

Lear’s involvement will also enable further funding of coach education within the Academy catchment area supporting the quality of coaching provision at the many clubs and schools that we currently work alongside.

Academy Manager, Matt Davies has lead on the rapid expansion of the Academy Programme over the past three seasons and is looking forward to further progress that can be achieved through the partnership with Lear:

“Our core focus is ensuring we are delivering as many coaching and learning opportunities for players both on and off the field to enhance rugby performance but also life skills in general.

“A keen driver for us to is to establish innovative ways to maximise these development opportunities, with better equipment, enhanced access to coaching and off-field player advice and guidance.

“As an Academy we are proud to be partnering with leading brands such as Lear, that provide us with a well-established network of support and investment, meaning our junior players can further their confidence and motivation to deliver a strong performance both on and off the field.”

England International and Wasps centre Elliot Daly, who has experienced the Wasps Academy pathway first hand, said: “Lear’s support of the Academy is a huge boost for the club and will help the Academy team continue the hard work they’re already doing. 

“My involvement with the club at a young age in the Academy system was instrumental in my progressions and we’ve seen a number of other guys graduate into the first team squad over the last few years.”
