Summer Coachclass a big success in Warwickshire

This summer saw the launch of our grassroots rugby We Are Wasps Coachclass programme in partnership with Land Rover in Warwickshire with events taking place at Broadstreet RFC and Sutton Coldfield RFC.

Over 230 young players aged 6 to 15 enjoyed a full programme of rugby activity that included a Ricoh Arena stadium tour and coaching on the pitch; plus the highlight of watching Wasps at either the Singa 7s or our fixture against Samoa.

Wasps Ambassador Paul Sackey joined our team of community coaches to develop each player’s core rugby skills and game understanding with guest visits by Wasps players; including Phil Swainston at Sutton Coldfield RFC and the whole squad performing an open training session at Broadstreet RFC.

Wasps Community Development Coach Ian Isham said: “It was great to see so many players attend over the two events, I was impressed by the ability level and it was really good to be able to watch the players develop over the 3 days.

"Having Paul Sackey along really gave the chance for the players to see what sort of training a professional player would do and get some key tips from him.

"The Wasps 1st XV players attending some of the days was a real highlight for many of the children, as it gave them the opportunity to meet some of their favourite players.”
