Match Reaction: Stephen Jones post Saints

Stephen Jones gives his reaction following the 29-6 loss to Northampton Saints in the LV=Cup.

After the game Jones was very complimentary about the way his side had worked hard for good territory and possession but said that a big focus this week will be on finishing off the chances they create.

“We knew that we were up against a very good Northampton team. The positives from our side were the amount of possession we had and the way we worked some good territory.

“Our territory and possession was very good, I think it was probably pretty level with theirs, but the frustrating thing was that we failed to cross the tryline for a try.

“There were a lot of changes with regards to personnel this week but we are disappointed that we didn’t cross despite a lot of good lead up work. That will be a big focus for us this week going into the Quins game, making sure that we are smarter in the way we play and are far more direct in our approach.

"It’s a long intense season so it is important that we get the balance between game time and rest right and hopefully we go into this block of fixtures with guys who have a full tank of petrol ready for the task ahead."

Wasps now go into a block of four Aviva Premiership fixtures, starting with the game against Harlequins at the Ricoh Arena on Sunday. Jones says that nobody is underestimating the importance of that block of games.

“It’s huge, it really is as simple as that. Hopefully the guys who have picked up bumps in the last couple of weeks will come through and be able to compete for a spot this weekend and we can have a good week’s preparation for what are going to be four huge league games.”
