Wasps represented at Aviva Premiership Rugby Final

Despite not qualifying for the Aviva Premiership Rugby Final, Wasps will still be represented at Twickenham stadium on Saturday 31st May, by schools and clubs that have participated in elements of the Wasps Community Programme.

Tylers Green Middle School

The Wasps Community Team delivered elements of the Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme at Tylers Green Middle School during the Spring Term. Both Year 3 classes received a total of 5-hours of Tag Rugby coaching, with the Wasps Coaches progressing each session so that each child could play Tag Rugby proficiently in time for an inter-class tournament during the last week.

Aviva have supported the National Schools Rugby Programme for the last 4 years, and by the end of July 2014 Wasps have delivered over 2000 hours of Tag Rugby coaching during curriculum time, in 148 different schools in the Buckinghamshire, East Berkshire, Middlesex and Oxfordshire areas. During the 4-years, Wasps have also donated 800 rugby balls and 200 sets of tags and tag belts, and delivered Introduction to Tag Rugby teacher workshops for over 400 school representatives, with both elements designed to empower the schools to continue coaching Tag Rugby after the Wasps Community Schools Programme moved on.

Spectators at Twickenham Stadium on 31st May will see Tylers Green Middle School play during half time of the Aviva Premiership Final.

Foxborough Primary School

Following this season's re-launch of the Something to Chew On programme, sponsored by BT Sport's charity, The Supporters Club, the Wasps Community Team have delivered this healthy eating programme to 10 schools (by the end of July 2014). Something to Chew On is aimed at Year 3 students from areas that are ranked in the bottom 20% of deprived areas, based on the Indices of Multiple Deprivation (IMD). Foxborough Primary School, in Slough, are one of the schools that has received this coaching.

During the 5-week programme, 2 classes from each school will have received 5-hours of classroom sessions that are designed to develop the group's understanding of what food is, a balanced diet, food hygiene and safety, with the last week seeing the children either designing or making a healthy sandwich. In conjunction with each classroom session, the Wasps Community Coaches led Tag Rugby coaching outside, which allowed the children to develop their Tag Rugby skills whilst exploring the role of food in providing the right energy for exercise.

To ensure that the Something to Chew On messages are continued in school and at home, assemblies, or other parent interactions, have been run at each school, and teacher education opportunities provided for the teachers. Each school also receives 2 rugby balls to support the ongoing delivery of Tag Rugby for the children.

You will see Foxborough Primary School playing Tag Rugby on the Twickenham pitch before the Aviva Premiership Rugby final.

The Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup has now been running for 5 seasons, and each year the age group winners win tickets to the Aviva Premiership Final, and get to parade around the Twickenham Pitch during half time.

On 1st March 2014, at Farnham Royal RUFC, Marlow RUFC Under 11s continued their success in local rugby festivals, winning the Under 11s Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup. Beccehamian RFC Under 12s returned on the same date to defend their title (winning the Under 11 competition in 2012-13), thus becoming one of only three teams to retain the Wasps leg of the Land Rover Premiership Cup.

The Marlow RUFC team will be wearing either White with thin black and gold hoops or Black with thin white and gold hoops, and Beccehamian RFC will be in Black and Maroon hoops, with white trim.
