Post Match Reaction: Dai Young

Dai Young gives his reaction to the 13-11 win over Worcester Warriors.

After the game, Young was clearly frustrated with the way his side had played but was also pleased to come away with a much-needed win.

"I’m really pleased we found a way to win really. We were probably out of that game with 5 mins to go and then we had that spell of sustained pressure where I felt we should’ve come away with something and felt a little hard done by that maybe it should’ve been a yellow card, but in saying that I don’t think we deserved to win the game."

"I thought we defended really well apart from that individual moment of brilliance by Lemi for their try. I don’t think we were under undue pressure considering all the possession and territory they had. But we looked really nervous with the ball. We spilled a lot of ball and weren’t as accurate as we would’ve liked. We just seemed edgy and that didn’t allow us to build many phases to put Worcester under real pressure. To be honest I thought the way we scored the try was the only way we were going to score."

"We made 7 or 8 line breaks but in the wrong areas. I thought if we could get possession in the right areas we could make significant dents in their defense to come away with something. At 66-67 minutes I was starting to think it might not be our night, but thankfully we found a way to win."

"Sometimes the result is more important than the performance and that was probably a night where that was the case. I’m just hoping we’ve got a little bit of a monkey off our back now."

"We were going really well a couple of months ago when we won 8 out of 11, but we’ve lost the last four on the bounce and you could see the players tightening up and losing a bit of self-belief and confidence with ball in hand."

"We really feel for Worcester and they were probably the better team tonight. We’ve had the same done to us two or three times this season so we know how they feel and I really feel for Dean because the Warriors have probably been that close three or four times and they could’ve been on the back of three or four wins rather than losses."

"But for us we’re just really pleased to get that result and hopefully it will give us a little bit of confidence to be slightly more effective and accurate with ball in hand. Hopefully now we’ve got the win we can relax a little bit. We’re happy with the result but there is still lots to work on."
