Together in the Dreams Stand
A couple of weeks ago in the school newsletter there were tickets to go to a Wasps VS London Irish rugby match. We went.
It was the first live match we have been to! Here is what happened…
It was a long journey but it was worth it. When we got there it was quite cold so we put our thermals on and we were glad we did. We went down to the stadium and got hot chocolate and doughnuts, they were delicious, then we went to find our seats. We had our photo taken with Sting the mascot.
We were not the only Fairfield family there, we saw Taidgh (year 2) and his family.
We were amazed as the rugby players warmed up and practiced, they did massive kicks that looked like the ball would go out of the stadium. Soon after the game began. It was brilliant to watch, the players were fast. There were lots of scrums, throw ins, tackles, sliding, and of course tries.
Just before half time it rained, it rained a lot, a downpour like hammers hitting the ground! It was quite cold too, we were glad we had warm clothes and hand warmers.
Meeting London Wasps' Prop Taione Vea after the game
In the second half it rained some more like a monsoon but the players didn’t seem to mind sliding in the mud and water. Keeping possession of the ball became very difficult. One of the London Irish players had to go off the pitch on a stretcher because his leg locked up, a cartilage injury we found out.
The atmosphere at the match was really good, we are really glad we went.
Final score Wasps 22 : London Irish 15
