Wade commits his future to Wasps

England International Christian Wade has signed a contract extension that will keep him in black and gold.

Following a summer in which the young winger earned his first cap for England and was subsequently called up into the Lions squad, Wade has pledged his future to Wasps.

Wade has been a one club man, making his debut for Wasps in January 2011 after coming through the Academy system, and, as a result of his performances in black and gold, has already represented England 7s, England U20s, England Saxons, England and the British and Irish Lions.

Wade has made a name for himself in the Aviva Premiership in recent years as one of the deadliest finishers in the game. With dazzling footwork, electric pace and an eye for the line, Wade topped the Aviva Premiership Try Scorers last season, level on 13 tries with fellow Wasp Tom Varndell.

His performances in the Aviva Premiership earned him a call up into Stuart Lancaster’s side that toured South America in the summer, where the 22-year-old picked up his first cap against Argentina, before being whisked away to Australia to join Warren Gatland’s Lions touring party. Despite being injured, Wade has retained his place in England’s Senior EPS squad, announced this month.

Christian Wade said “The last few years have been amazing for me. Playing for England is a dream come true and pulling on a Lions jersey in the summer was something that I never expected. It was Wasps who gave me the platform to go on and do those things and I am extremely grateful for the opportunities they have provided me.”

“Since I first made my debut for the Club, things have changed dramatically and we are now building towards something that we all believe in and want to be part of. I’m excited about what the next few years will bring and am delighted to be here for the foreseeable future.”

Dai Young said “Christian is, without doubt, one of the outstanding young talents in the country at this moment in time. He is a young guy with a level head on his shoulders who is always keen to learn and I think that has been obvious in his rapid development in the last few seasons. We have got a really good core of young, talented, English players who will form the backbone for this squad moving forward and I am hugely pleased to add Christian’s name to that list.”
