During January 2014, the Wasps Community Team supported the Thomas's London Day School Inter-school rugby tournaments, which were held at Hurlingham Park in Fulham.
Thomas's London Day Schools
Thomas’s London Day Schools offer a rich and broad education which inspires enjoyment, learning and achievement. Each child’s experience is underpinned by the expectation that all members of the schools adhere to the most important school rule, which is ‘Be Kind’.
Each of the two kindergartens and the four preparatory schools is autonomous in terms of the day-to-day management by the heads and leadership teams. However, there is a shared philosophy and a commitment to the highest standards and to the extraordinary wealth of opportunity that allows children to discover and develop the best of themselves. This is nurtured by the Founding Principals, David and Joanna Thomas, and the Principals, Tobyn Thomas and Ben Thomas.
Over the course of 3 afternoons, on 13th, 14th and 17th January, Wasps sent a total of 24 Community Coaches and Referee's to support the Inter School Rugby festivals for Under 10, 9 and 8 teams respectively. The teams were from Thomas's Day School sites in Battersea, Clapham, Fulham and Kensington.
During the festivals, our referee's led the games which had an emphasis on participation and enjoyment. Throughout the games, the Wasps team coached the teams and individual players on specific areas of their game play, based on what they had observed during the afternoon.
After their visit to Fulham, Wasps Independent Schools Programme Officer Ben Smiley told wasps.co.uk: "The atmosphere that the players, staff and spectators created at all three events was exactly what I would expect at a grassroots rugby event. This postive atmosphere, that encouraged players of all abilities to have a go made it a pleasure to work in, and every member of the Wasps delivery team commented on how nice an event it was to work at. Thank you to all of the Thomas's team for making these events so enjoyable for us."
A large part of the Wasps Community Programme, our Schools Programme consists of a series of schools engagements in the state and independent education sectors.
Within the Wasps Community Schools Programme sits the Independent Schools Programme. This is made up of a series of one-off, term-long or occasional rugby engagements, and all elements of our Independent Schools Programme are bespoke and designed specifically to meet the school, team or player's needs.
