With many people's New Year resolutions still fresh in their minds, London Wasps launched their 2014 Community Programme in style with two Coachclass events for Independent Schools in the first week of January.
The London Wasps Independent Schools Programme is a programme of bespoke rugby engagements for schools and organisations within the Independent education sector. Our rugby activities for Independent Schools are built around the school's, squad's, team's, player's or coach's needs, and can be a one-off session, or a programme that lasts an entire term.
Nathan with an Elstree School Coachclass group
On Monday 6th January, coaches from the London Wasps Community Team visited Elstree School in Woolhampton near Newbury to run a 3-day Coachclass for 72 children from the school and surrounding area. The Coachclass ran on each morning of 6th, 7th and 8th January, with London Wasps Coachclass Programme Officer Ryan Hunt leading Community Coaches Frazer Hunt, Max Le Count-Ward, Ollie Smith, Nathaniel Greathead, Daniel Reilly and Chris Hinds.
London Wasps number 8 Nathan Hughes visited Elstree School on the third morning (8th January) to help with the coaching, pose for photos and sign autographs for the young players at the Coachclass.
Andrea at the Dolphin School Coachclass
Alongside the Elstree Coachclass, London Wasps Community Rugby Coach Ian Isham and Community Coach Stuart Day ran a 2-day long coachclass at the Doplhin School in Hurst, Berkshire. 18 young players from the school were led through coaching activities that developed specific contact and non-contact skills, as well as teamworking and tactical knowledge for Rugby.
The players at Dolphin School were joined during the Coachclass by London Wasps and Italy's centre Andrea Masi, and Andrea spent time working with the children to pass on some knowledge that he has built from his experiences playing at World Cups and in the Heineken Cup, Aviva Premiership and Pro 12 (France).
London Wasps are running several Coachclass events around the South East of England during the February half term (17th to 21st February 2014).
