Matt Mullan & Ed Jackson at Stoke Mandeville Hospital
We were delighted to accept invitations from two local hospitals to meet some of their young patients, families and hospital staff in the lead up to Christmas.
On Wednesday 18th December prop Matt Mullan and back row Ed Jackson went to the Stoke Mandeville Hospital near Aylesbury to visit the St Francis Ward and the main Children’s Ward. The players joined our character mascot Sting to meet some of the children, and later visited the world-famous Spinal Injuries Unit.
Wasps full-back Hugo Southwell and back row Nathan Hughes joined Sting at Wexham Park Hospital, near Slough on Thursday 20th December. Each of the players gave out personalised Christmas cards from Wasps, while Sting gave out gifts to the younger patients.
After the visits, Community Partnerships Officer Jo Hawley told wasps.co.uk, "We recognise the importance that Christmas is a time for being with families, and the role that Wasps can play within our community at such a time as this. We wanted to demonstrate our support for those families affected by loved ones being in hospital during the festive period and hope that such a small gesture can help to lift their spirits."
"On behalf of the young people and staff on St Francis ward I would like to say thank you very much for the visit by players and Sting on December 18th. Everybody enjoyed meeting and chatting to them. It was good to see some of our young people respond so positively to them. Happy New Year, have a good season and we look forward to another visit at the end of this year!" Jackie Youens, Play Specialist, St Francis Ward, NSIC
