As our player of the month, Jorsh has won;

  • A London Wasps beanie hat
  • A £10 Coachclass Gift Voucher
  • Tickets to a London Wasps home game
  • A Player of the Month Certificate

Jorsh was selected as our Player of the Month following London Wasps' coaching at Long Close School during September. Jorsh, an Under 9 at the school, was coached through the Tag to Tackle process by Schools Programme Officer Ben Smiley. This method of introducing contact to rugby players see's them play a game of Tag Rugby, but instead of a Tag signifying a pass, the players involved in the Tag have to tackle each other, following the introduction to tackle progressions below.

  • Ball carrier and tackler both on knees
  • Ball carrier standing and tackler on knees
  • Ball carrier standing and tackler squatting
  • Ball carrier and tackler both standing
  • Ball carrier and tackler both walking towards each other
  • Ball carrier and tackler both jogging towards each other

Throughout the coaching, Jorsh demonstrated some excellent skills and a fabulous attitude towards improving his skills further. He asked some excellent questions, and and was very positive towards helping his team mates improve.

When presenting Jorsh's prize in front of his class, London Wasps Schools Programme Officer Ben Smiley said: "Jorsh was a lovely young man to coach. He was totally committed to developing his skills, whist making sure that he was able to support his team mates' learning as much as possible. From someone so young, these are excellent behaviours to demonstrate."

What is the London Wasps Independent Schools Programme?

The London Wasps Independent Schools Programme sits within the clubs' Community Schools Programme. It consists of a range of rugby based engagements for Independent Schools, that can last from 10-minutes to 10 or more weeks.

There are an infinite number of ways that London Wasps can support rugby in Independent Schools - if an opportunity for your school to receive elements of the London Wasps Independent Schools Programme is not listed here, it probably just means that we've not been asked to do it before!

For more details about how you can get involved, please contact us through the Independent Schools Programme pages, email our Schools Programme Officer at ben.smiley@wasps.co.uk or ring the Community Team on 01494 531122.
