On the evening of Monday 18th November, London Wasps' Schools Programme Officer Ben Smiley delivered an official RFU Continuous Professional Development (CPD) course at Caldicott Boys' Preparatory School, as a part of the London Wasps Coach the Coaches and Independent Schools programmes.
Organised in partnership with the school's Head of Rugby Matt Hutchings, the RFU Continuity in Attack CPD was for any teachers from an IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) member school. In total, 15 male and female teachers attended the course which focused on the following learning outcomes;

In delivering the CPD workshop, Ben Smiley, an RFU Coach Developer, used a range of tools including group discussions, breakout groups, physical activities and visual aids to ensure that the various learning styles and needs of the delegates were catered for.

After the Independent Schools Coach the Coaches session, Schools Programme Officer Ben Smiley told wasps.co.uk: "We had some very constructive and positive discussions during yesterday's workshop. There was a range of coaching and playing experience in the room, and this allowed everyone to feed off each other as well as from the different activities that made up the workshop. I hope that everyone was able to take something from the course, and wish them luck for their future coaching."
London Wasps would like to thank Caldicott Boys' Preparatory School for hosting the RFU CPD Workshop, and for Head of Rugby Matt Hutchings for his help in setting the course up.
The London Wasps Independent Schools Programme sits within the clubs' Community Schools Programme. It consists of a range of rugby based engagements for Independent Schools, that can last from 10-minutes to 10 or more weeks. There is an infinite number of ways that London Wasps can support rugby in Independent Schools - if an opportunity for your school to receive elements of the London Wasps Independent Schools Programme is not listed here, it probably just means that we've not been asked to do that before!
